STATE GOVERNMENT

The Challenge: A State Government project required strong project management support to guide what was a complex technology and business change initiative. However it was part of a larger program with its own Program Management Office (PMO). This Program Management Office provided inadequate support to its member projects and was not willing to change. Additional support for this project needed to be established as an extension to the existing PMO rather than in isolation.

The Solution: Information Professionals consultants performed a review of the current Program Management capability and defined the capabilities that were not being provided. A supplementary Project Office was then established which worked with the overall PMO and provided a complete package of support to the project.

The Outcome: Having a single Project Office that fully supported the project’s objectives proved highly beneficial for this project allowing it to deliver to its objectives. The overall Program Management Office benefited from having an educated internal client to deal with in the Project Office. The PMO also recognised the importance of the role being performed by the Project Office and it was eventually merged into the PMO to the benefit of the Program as a whole.
